Medical Coding (Continuing Education)

Short Term

The following courses teach the skills and concepts necessary for entry-level coding positions in a variety of health care facilities.

Students may elect to sit for certification exams offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (). Since students must meet the respective organization鈥檚 examination criteria, practical experience is recommended prior to sitting for these certification exams.

Note: Students must purchase the hardcopy coding books and have them by the first day of class. This includes students who are awarded a grant.

Codebooks are updated in January each year. Since current year codebooks are required for the certification exam, students may have to purchase a second set of codebooks depending on when they complete the courses and sit for the exam. Instructors will be using the current year codebooks.
