EMT Initial Provider (Continuing Education)

Short Term

This 麻豆影视 course establishes the basic knowledge needed to provide, under medical authority, prehospital emergency care and to pass the NC State or National Registry certification exam. Students will acquire basic life support knowledge through a combination of classroom instruction, practical laboratory exercises, field time with an EMS agency, and clinical experience in hospitals. Students will acquire a thorough understanding of criminal, civil, and vehicle laws pertaining to the EMT's services; develop understanding and knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; deal calmly and efficiently with childbirth, injuries, poisonings, and other medical emergencies such as heart disorders, strokes, and diabetes; and in general be able to provide basic life support for seriously/critically ill patients.

Requirements for Successful Completion

Students will be required to attend a minimum of 48 hours of clinicals schedule not to conflict with class hours and perform a minimum of 10 patient assessments. Students will maintain greater than 90% attendance rate, entry-level competency for all required skills, entry-level competency for required Technical Scopes of Practice (TSOPs).

Prerequisites

There are several educational prerequisites that are necessary for admission into the EMS Education program. These prerequisites are essential for compliance with the 麻豆影视 EMS Education Plan approved by the and NCOEMS pre/corequisite guidelines. All prerequisites MUST be completed AND approved prior to enrolling in any EMT Initial course. Courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. Attend one of the mandatory information sessions. The session will provide you with an overview of all the remaining steps of the registration process including information about prerequisites and corequisites requirements.
     
  2. Students who wish to enroll in an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, students must be 17 years old on or before the official end date of the EMT course.
     
  3. Valid Driver's License
     
  4. Proof of Vaccinations: Documentation must be submitted to Shield Screening for EMT initial provider students and approved to secure a permanent seat in the course (Shield screen account will be good for one year).
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox): Two vaccinations or a positive antibody titer
    • Hepatitis B: Three vaccinations or a positive antibody titer
    • Tuberculosis (TB); Submit documentation of one of the following:
      • Two TB skin tests (2-3 weeks apart) or
      • Two consecutive annual TB skin tests (10-12 months between tests) or
      • A negative quantiFERON Gold blood test (lab report required). If the results are positive, submit a copy of your clear chest X-Ray with physician report.
    • Tetanus, Diphtheria, & Pertussis (Tdap): Submit documentation of a Tetanus, Diphtheria, & Pertussis (Tdap) vaccination, administered within the past 10 Years.
    • Polio: Submit documentation of your primary Polio vaccination series (at least 3 vaccinations), or a positive Polio titer listing Polio I, Polio II, and Polio III (lab report required)
    • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR): Proof of two vaccines or a positive antibody titer
    • Influenza: Submit documentation of a flu vaccination administered during the current flu season (September - March)

  5. Basic Education Requirement: High School Diploma or high school equivalency or
    • A placement test that places reading comprehension at the 11th grade level. View

Students are required to attend an information session (listed below) where they will learn more about the program and obtain the link for the application. The monthly information session will be in person on the Orange County Campus. There are no virtual options available. EMS-4200A Emergency Medical Technician Initial

This EMT program is being conducted according to the rules of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission. Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation).
