�鶹Ӱ�� Community College’s Board of Trustees welcomed new board Chair Dr. Pat Ashley and new Vice Chair Gracie Johnson-Lopez to their new roles Tuesday, Aug. 19. The board unanimously elected them in June and their terms began July 1 and will run through June 2026.

Dr. Ashley and Ms. Johnson-Lopez have served on the board since 2015 and 2018, respectively. Both bring strong records of leadership and have made a significant commitment to the College and our community in their personal and professional lives. In addition, six new appointments have joined the board to fill the seats vacated by trustees whose terms expired in June 2025.

The new members are:
•    Lois Deloatch, appointed by the �鶹Ӱ�� County Commissioners to a term ending in 2029, has previously served as co-chair of the �鶹Ӱ�� Foundation’s Forge Great Futures campaign. She has worked with Self-Help and in development leadership roles at NC Central and Duke. 
•    Dr. Shun Robertson, appointed by the �鶹Ӱ�� County Board of County Commissioners to a term ending in June 2026, is the senior vice president for strategy and policy for the University of North Carolina System Office.
•    Nick Tennyson, appointed by the state Senate, is former �鶹Ӱ�� mayor and former secretary of the N.C. Department of Transportation. His term ends in June 2029.
•    Mike Woodard, reappointed by the state House to a term ending in June 2029, is a former state senator and former �鶹Ӱ�� employee.
•    Steven Earp, appointed by the state House to a term ending June 2026, is a former �鶹Ӱ�� instructor and student, and has worked for 

18 years at Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering.
•    Child Precieux Kounieka, ex-officio student trustee was appointed by the Student Government Association by virtue of his role as president of the SGA for the 2025-26 academic year, is an international student from the Republic of the Congo and he is studying computer science. 

In addition, Dr. Mike Lee was reappointed by the �鶹Ӱ�� Board of County Commissioners. His term ends in June 2027.

The College also honored the trustees whose terms expired in June at a reception following the meeting for their combined 43 years of providing outstanding service and leadership to the College.
•    Dr. Tara Fikes, who was first appointed in 2013 and served as board chair from 2022-25.
•    Barker French, who was first appointed in 2017.
•    Jenna Bryant, who was first appointed in 2017
•    Rev. Dr. Michael Page, who was first appointed in 2017.

“We are fortunate to have had the leadership of both our current and former trustees,” �鶹Ӱ�� President J.B. Buxton said. “We will continue to build on that tradition.”
